Instrumentation & Controls Technician
Summary: Under supervision maintains and calibrates all instruments and controls which may be electronic (analog and digital), Pneumatic, or hydraulic. Also engages in routine and emergency troubleshooting of control system problems and corrects malfunctions.
Duties:
- Repairs and calibrates equipment /instrumentation (including controls, gauges, loops, test equipment, belt scales, pressure switches, transmitters, flowmeters and chart recorders) according to established standards.
- Must have experience with Water Treatment Equipment. Namely Hach analyzers, Dissolved Oxygen, Silica analyzers.
- Repairs and calibrates final control mechanisms such as automatically controlled valves or positioners.
- Records calibrations made and part and components used.
- Inspects instrumentation for measuring, controlling, recording and indicating operating parameters of equipment and processes on the plant site.
- Troubleshoot equipment in or out of the control system.
- Test and examine mechanisms and circuitry for defects using test equipment, including oscilloscopes, deadweight testers, frequency counters, gas and flow analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, load calibrators, manometers, recording devises, potentiometers, digital voltmeters, and other equipment as required.
- Remove defective/malfunctioning instruments/parts from systems; disassembles, examines and tests mechanisms and circuitry for defects; cleans, repairs or replaces defective parts, and reassembles using hand tools.
- Use electronic theory formulas to assist in tuning adjustments.
- Reads written and graphic materials, including work orders, technical manuals, shop manuals, drawings (mechanical, electrical and pneumatic), and blueprints.
- Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect modifications made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
- 3 to 5 years experience as an Instrument Mechanic or similar experience in instrumentation and controls related to the operation of a power plant
